Hasta Manana, amigos

The Treasure Island music festival in San Francisco was really amazing last night. All of you, whoever you are, have to listen to the song "Home" by Edwarde Sharp and the Magnetic Zeros. It was gray and freezing last night, and we woke up in the city to rain. I have to repack everything today, and get a few last minutes supplies for NOLS (sunscreen, chapstick, batteries, peanut butter malt balls). I was actually able to set up two farms in Northern California to wwooff in before Christmas that will take all four of us, and they both sound really gorgeous and rewarding. Tonight we're going out for sushi, and I'm planning on taking a really, really, long hot shower before my month of stink. Mostly, though, I absolutely cannot wait to meet the people on my course, and see Baja! Apparently there's a hurricane, but a little rain never hurt anybody. I love you all so so much, and will definitely write stories and try to figure out pictures (I got a camera) when I get back. Till November 13...

No Snow in Santa Cruz

I discovered a new staple for my diet, which is frittata. With feta cheese. I have loved being in Santa Cruz, yesterday (and from the looks of it, today) was perfect, really, with warm sunshine and cool breezes and moist dirt smells. In an hour, I'm going to meet my friend Eliane to do bikram yoga, and we're all hiking Pogonip later today. Tomorrow Nicole and I are painting all day, and making costumes for a party Saturday night. Sunday is the music festival in San Francisco. Jack: Artemis and Andromeda. I still need to invest in a camera. Oh shit! Have any of you seen a passionfruit flower? Dr. Suess helped with the creation of this, baby, let me tell you. Look it up, maybe. When I get a camera I will take photos of it. I am feeling healthy, well fed, well rested, etc etc. I went to farmer's market on Wed and had to force myself to leave so I wouldn't spend my South America money on produce. I did buy a jar of wild flower honey to keep in my pack, though.

Day one of living out of my pack for six months

Hello All! I have safely arrived in Santa Cruz and have thus far eaten chicken pot pie, broccoli, potatoes and green peppers, and pumpkin pancakes. The sky is cloudy here, and it smells like eucalyptus. I have a comfortable futon to sleep on, and two curious, beautiful rats to play with. The flight went well, I had chatty seatmates, one whose first words to me were "Damn environmentalists". Anyway. Today we're going to bake a pie and make a big stir fry dinner, and visit the sea lions.

Why am I blogging?

To make myself popular...
Also to provide a space for my family, et al, to keep track of where I may be, and what I'm doing. This is easier for me than keeping you all individually updated (or implanting a tracking device), and offers an easy way to share all of my stories. Perhaps it will also give all you worry warts some peace of mind :)
